Central Control operations, (k) maintenance and storage, (1) outdoor recreation, and (m) jail <br />administration. The facility can provide a full spectrum of inmate education programs, counseling <br />services, medical and psychological services. <br />Through 2016, the Jail was staffed by 124 civilian personnel which included (a) jail administrator, (b) <br />police administrative manager, (c) ten correctional supervisors, (d) 94 correctional officers (both full- and <br />part-time, and (e) 18 other support personnel. On a daily basis, these staff assume responsibility for <br />carrying out all operational support tasks and inmate supervision activities at the detention facility. <br />The Jail consists of both cells and dormitory housing settings. Inmate housing includes eight new <br />generation podular direct supervision tiered units with dayrooms, classrooms, medical services area, <br />visiting, and circulation space. One of the housing units is designed for maximum security classification <br />detainees who must be housed in administrative segregation single cells. The combination of settings <br />allows for a flexible placement of inmates that adjusts with fluctuating needs. <br />Eighty-nine percent (89%) of the Santa Ana Jail contains 149,826 gross square feet of indoor space. The <br />total square footage in the building, including the vehicle sallyport and outdoor recreation areas, is <br />168,243. The detention facility's building area is located on four levels. Level one contains the largest <br />area in the building, followed by inmate housing space on levels three and four. This has <br />resulted in an average daily inmate population of 375 detainees. An average of 85 of the inmates have <br />been females and 290 have been male detainees.
