Road and Street Maintenance SNO <br />Description <br />Streets, roads, and highways are significant sources of pollutants <br />in stormwater discharges, and operation and maintenance <br />(OW) practices, if not conducted properly, can contribute to the <br />problem. Stormwater pollution from roadway and bridge <br />maintenance should be addressed on a site -specific basis. Use of <br />the procedures outlined below, that address street sweeping and <br />repair, bridge and structure maintenance, and unpaved roads <br />will reduce pollutants in stormwater. <br />Approach <br />Pollution Prevention <br />i Use the least toxic materials available (e,g, water based <br />paints, gels or sprays for graffiti removal) <br />i Recycle paint and other materials whenever possible. <br />i Enlist the help of citizens to keep yard waste, used oil, and <br />other wastes out of the gutter. <br />Suggested Protocols <br />Street Sweeping and Cleaning <br />i Maintain a consistent sweeping schedule.
