corn passionate nanu-nuiui rig to ensure tna[ tnis mosruirncturto-serve pupwauun receives Erie nee neap tney
require to make forward progress. These services are offered to all clients over a full year period, and a few
receive an additional year depending on their circumstances.
Other organizations serving poverty level and/or homeless clients do not have a ready force of employers
working with them to place clients as SCOC does. They serve as referral agencies rather than full -support
staff, ready to help with needs for clothing, medical services, resume preparation and printing, mockinterviewing,
and training in typical workplace issues. The gap between navigating the career centers and
successfully interviewing to land a job is huge, and SCOC aims to fill it. SCOC caseworkers help identify
suitable positions for each client based on interests, skill levels, functional potential, and availability, as well
as transportation issues since very few clients have cars.
Most clients are solitary when they are accepted into SCOC, but they have left a trail of damaged
relationships behind. SCOC case workers expect this, know the intricacies of working to re-establish relationships, reunite
families, deal with court hearings regarding children in foster care, and are committed
to each client not only to get them work, but also learn to build the network and support system that most
happy and successful people enjoy.
Because SCOC deals with the "whole" person, assessing needs for mentoring, job skills training, and job
readiness, the cadre of employers who hire clients know the process, link directly with Executive Director,
and can identify issues before they become road blocks to client success. The SCOC business partners who
emplov our clients are another reason our success level is at 90%.
EXHIBIT A
