They transformed an empty into an <br />ecological <br />oasis. Their brief iS that everyone should have access to the tools, <br />knowledge and skills o promote healthy communities and an abundant future <br />r all. They adhieve this by having fun, hands-on activities that teach practical <br />arvino ental solutions at the household and community level. At the <br />enter they have four core -Natives. Grow(growing you own food), water <br />(finding simple soldtion to cut daily water use in half(, eat (building pathways <br />to an ecological food futurel and make (supporting local artisan culture(. <br />EXHIBIT <br />SHILOH FARM <br />PITTSBURGH, PA <br />Shiloh is a model of what is possible in urban <br />agriculture on one city lot Since 2008, Grow <br />Pittsburgh has exch ang ad produ ce for the se <br />of th form erly va ant lot They've converted <br />the lot into a smal urban farm, complete <br />within-ground all <br />beds, herbs, figs, <br />raspberries, antl flowers to draw beneficial <br />insects. Shiloh Farm also has a beehive and <br />ke a flock of Rhode Island Red chicns. The <br />garden's back perimeter is marked by a large <br />solar array, which ferds into the neighboring <br />home. <br />Chemical free growing techniques are <br />applied to grow produce, which primarily <br />supplies the on -site farm stand. The stand <br />5 open weekly on Thursdays from June <br />through Oct It also cooperates with Frick <br />greenhouseand kitchen gard:s [o serve as <br />site for assistants and apprentices to learn <br />about and try out small wale urban farming <br />techniques for different communities. <br />75A-103 <br />
