CITY OF FULLERTON <br /> General <br /> Location and Government. The City of Fullerton ("Fullerton") is located in the northern portion <br /> of Orange County, approximately 23 miles south of downtown Los Angeles with Long Beach on the <br /> southwest, Pomona and Ontario on the northeast, Riverside on the east and major Orange County cities to <br /> the south. Fullerton, founded in 1887 and incorporated in 1904, is the sixth largest city in Orange County <br /> and is accessible by three major freeways and the railroad. Fullerton is 22.2 square miles in size, 150 feet <br /> above sea level, and 17 miles from the ocean. <br /> Fullerton is a general law city, deriving its power from acts of the State legislature. Fullerton is <br /> governed by a non-partisan, five-member City Council elected to serve staggered four-year terms. The City <br /> elections are consolidated with the Statewide general elections held in November of even-numbered years. <br /> The City Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Treasurer, as well as members of the <br /> various commissions, boards and other citizen advisory groups, ensuring a broad base of citizen input into <br /> the City's decision-making process. <br /> Community Services and Facilities, Police and Fire Protection. Fullerton provides the full range <br /> of municipal services contemplated by statute or charter. This includes public safety (police and fire), <br /> highways and streets, sanitation, water utility and airport, culture and recreation, public improvements, <br /> planning and general administrative and support services. <br /> Fullerton is a major center of higher education in the County. California State University, Fullerton, <br /> located in Fullerton and is one of the 19 campuses of the California State Universities and offers more than <br /> 85 degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The campus is located on a 225-acre site, <br /> has about 700 full-time instructional personnel and an enrollment of about 25,000. Fullerton Junior College, <br /> • also located in the City, was the first junior college in California and has been in operation since 1913. The <br /> North Orange County Community College District is also headquartered in the City and operates its <br /> Fullerton Campus with an enrollment of 20,000. <br /> Fullerton is served by many overlapping school districts, although educational services are provided <br /> primarily by the City Elementary School District and the City Union High School District. Other school <br /> districts serving portions of Fullerton are Anaheim Elementary, Anaheim Union High School, Brea-Olinda <br /> Unified, Buena Park Elementary, La Habra Elementary and Placentia Unified. <br /> Economic Growth and Development <br /> Housing, Commercial and Industrial Development.
