The visionary aspect of interweaving into their very limited lifestyles the STEM component, plus the
opportunity to experience the joy of college life, plus cultural and fun outings with AOT staff as well as
with their mentors creates a reality of brighter futures for these children of prisoners who now have a
chance to achieve their goals.
These program activities work synergistically, reinforcing positive core values, education and self-esteem.
The overall goal of Brighter Futures for Children of Prisoners is to provide a safety net and brighter
futures for children of prisoners and their mothers/caregivers. Over the long term, we strive to see these
children blossom into productive adults rather than follow in their parent's footsteps. The program's
short-term goals are to help them become confident and productive, stay drug -free, stay in school,
increase interest in STEM subjects, and set goals for the future as well as reduce risk behaviors and
reduce the likelihood of future involvement in the criminal justice system.
CDBG funding will be used for program staff salaries and indirect expenses.
EXHIBIT A
