83 <br />Lower Division General Education <br />ENG 101: English This course emphasizes and develops skills in critical reading and academic writing. Reading <br />Composition and and writing assignments include exposition, argumentation, and academic research on topics <br />Reading I that are both diverse and relevant to students today. Readings, discussions, and writing <br />assignments will encourage critical thinking and an in-depth analysis of texts. Through the <br />completion of this course, students will write a minimum of 10,000 words. Classroom <br />instruction integrates one-on-one writing conference between teacher and student for <br />individualized attention, needs assessment, and monitored progress. Overall, this course aims <br />to impart college -level critical reading, academic writing, and research skills to its students. <br />Prerequisite: None <br />40 Hours Lecture <br />4.0 Quarter Credits <br />ENG 201: English Building on rhetorical skills developed in ENG 101, students will analyze, interpret, and <br />Composition and synthesize diverse texts in order to construct well -supported academic arguments and literary <br />Reading II analyses. Emphasizing critical thinking, this course uses literature to develop reading and <br />writing skills beyond the level achieved in ENG 101. This course presents the principles of <br />expository writing and rhetorical style through coordinated reading and writing assignments. <br />As such, students will practice how to synthesize multiple texts from a variety of sources to <br />present and support a written argument and/or report. Various expository writing techniques, <br />such as argumentation, description, and narration are further discussed. Topics include the <br />skills and procedures for conducting research and the writing of a well -organized and well - <br />developed report. Classroom instruction integrates one-on-one writing conference between <br />teacher and student for individualized attention, needs assessment, and monitored progress. <br />Prerequisite: GE ENG 101 <br />50 Hours Lecture <br />5.0 Quarter Credits <br />MAT 101: College The course will familiarize students with basic math theory and basic equations. This in-depth <br />Algebra overview of algebra and its uses includes integers, equations, polynomials, the decimal system <br />of numeration, four basic mathematical operations as they apply to whole numbers, fractions, <br />mixed numbers, and decimals without the use of any calculating device, factoring, geometric <br />figures, and measurements. In addition to the basic operations, logarithms, exponential <br />equations, systems of linear and nonlinear equations, Cramer's Rule, the Binomial Theorem, <br />the complex number system, and sequences and series are included.
