91 <br />Computer Information Department <br />..Academic Associate of Computer Business Applications <br />Program Description and Learnet Academy meets the educational and professional needs of our diverse student <br />Objectives body in a supportive, caring environment that provides the technical skills and knowledge <br />necessary for employment advancement in today's job market. The Academic Associate <br />Degree in Computer Business Applications program covers a broad spectrum of computer <br />applications such as computer concepts with business applications, Word, Excel, <br />Computerized Accounting, Database Applications, PowerPoint, Internet and Outlook. <br />Students will learn to handle accounting functions and to create documents, reports, <br />spreadsheets, presentations and handle accounting functions. The program also includes <br />courses in business to provide students with an introduction into the field of business, <br />business mathematics, and management communications. The program is designed to <br />develop the student into a versatile and proficient entry-level computerized office <br />operator. This major is filled with a variety of applications and experiences that will lay the <br />foundation for a fulfilling academic and professional career. The Academic Associate <br />Degree in Computer Business Applications will be awarded upon completion of the <br />requirements for the diploma, plus completion of the graduation requirements as <br />described in the catalog. Courses are offered both on campus and online. <br />Program Learning Outcomes <br />Upon successful completion of the Computer Business Applications program, the student <br />should be able to do the following: <br />• Describe the concepts and operations of the main components of Microsoft <br />Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc. <br />• Choose the appropriate application package and apply these Office applications <br />to a range of business and personal problems both standalone and integrated <br />with each other <br />• Demonstrate written and oral communication skills to logically and persuasively <br />support points of view or findings and express solutions to business needs <br />• Apply critical thinking skills for computer -based access, analysis, and <br />presentation of information <br />• Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team in designing and implementing a <br />computerized solution to a problem <br />Academic Associate Upon successful completion of the program, an Academic Associate Degree will be issued <br />Degree to the student. <br />Methods of Instruction The on campus method of instruction include classroom instruction, and homework. <br />Online courses utilize an LMS and include instruction, threaded group discussions, exams <br />and homework. Instruction will consist of lectures and/or activities that both disseminate <br />information and pose problems; group and panel discussions; discussion which <br />emphasize the ability to think critically; guest lecturers; and instruction media: <br />films/video/slides/graphic displays. Students may also be assigned reading, writing, and <br />other outside assignments equivalent to two hours per one hour lecture. Class instruction <br />will be based on the assumption that the student has done the reading assignments <br />before class. Classwork will include use of computers to do a number of projects related <br />to various software programs.
