11 <br />Learnet Academy. For MTA riders, a student discount is available by presenting their <br />student identification card and proof of enrollment. <br />Copyright and Software In compliance with U.S. Copyright Laws. Learnet Academy does not reproduce any <br />copyrighted materials for instructional use, including the reproduction of book material <br />and/or software material. As a member of Microsoft's IT Academy Program, Learnet <br />Academy has a volume license, authorizing the use of Microsoft software on classroom <br />computers. Additionally, Learnet Academy does not permit the photocopying of book <br />materials under any circumstances. The staff, faculty, and other personnel at Learnet <br />Academy honor copyright laws. We strictly adhere to and enforce this policy on our <br />campus. The copyright law is clear. The copyright holder is given certain exclusive rights, <br />including the right to make and distribute copies. Title 17 of the U.S. Code states that it is <br />illegal to make or distribute copies of copyrighted material without authorization (section <br />106). The only exception is the user's right to make a backup copy for archival purposes <br />(section 117). <br />The law protects the exclusive rights of the copyright holder and does not give users the <br />right to copy software unless a backup copy is not provided by the manufacturer. <br />Unauthorized duplication of software is a Federal crime. Penalties include fines of as much <br />as $100,000, and jail terms of up to five years. <br />1. Learnet Academy licenses the use of computer software from a variety of outside <br />companies. Learnet Academy does not own this software or its related <br />documentation and, unless authorized by the software manufacturer, does not <br />have the right to reproduce it. <br />2. With regard to use on local area networks or on multiple machines, Learnet <br />Academy employees shall use the software only in accordance with the license <br />agreement. <br />3. It is the sole responsibility of the students to acquire/purchase textbooks for their <br />specified programs. Required software is included in textbooks and course <br />materials as evaluation versions. <br />4. During the enrollment processing, the students are given verbal notice of their <br />course material responsibilities, including copyright and software license <br />infringement laws. Learnet Academy strictly forbids use of illegal materials, <br />including copied textbooks and software. <br />5. A memo regarding prohibited use of the copy machine for textbooks and materials <br />is posted in the copy area. Additionally, the copy machine is monitored by <br />administrative staff to ensure that faculty and students do not use it <br />inappropriately. <br />Academic Honesty Students will be expected to adhere to standards of academic honesty and integrity, as <br />outlined Learnet Academy is committed to a high standard of academic integrity in the <br />academic community. In becoming a part of the academic community, students are <br />responsible for honesty and independent effort. Failure to uphold these standards <br />includes, but is not limited to, the following: plagiarizing written work or projects, cheating <br />on exams or assignments, collusion on an exam or project, and misrepresentation of <br />credentials or prerequisites when registering for a course. Cheating includes looking at or <br />copying from another student's exam, orally communicating or receiving answers during an <br />exam, having another person take an exam or complete a project or assignment, using <br />unauthorized notes, texts, or other materials for an exam, and obtaining or distributing an <br />unauthorized copy of an exam or any part of an exam. Plagiarism means passing off as <br />his/her own the ideas or writings of another (that is, without giving proper credit by <br />documenting sources). <br />Last Revision Date on December 12, 2020 <br />
