25
cancellation of the student loan or loans.
To qualify for STRF reimbursement, the application must be received within four (4) years
from the date of the action or event that made the student eligible for recovery from STRF.
A student whose loan is revived by a loan holder or debt collector after a period of non -
collection may, at any time, file a written application for recovery from STRF for the debt
that would have otherwise been eligible for recovery. If it has been more than four (4)
years since the action or event that made the student eligible, the student must have filed
a written application for recovery within the original four (4) year period, unless the period
has been extended by another act of law.
However, no claim can be paid to any student without a social security number or a
taxpayer identification number.
Note: Authority cited: Sections 94803, 94877 and 94923, Education Code.
Reference: Section 94923, 94924 and 94925, Education Code.
Hypothetical Refund A student enrolls in the 720-hour Computer Information Technology Administrator (CITA)
Example for Non- program, and pays $6800.00 for tuition, $150.00 for registration, and $150.00 (fair market
Language Programs value) for equipment as specified in the enrollment agreement. The student decides to
withdraw after 250 clock hours of instruction has elapsed, without returning the
equipment he/she obtained. The pro rata refund to the student would be $4,589 and is
based on the calculations as described below.
Sample Refund
Calculation for Non -
Language Programs
Based on the preceding example, the refund calculation would be made in the following
way:
$6,950
$6,800 tuition + $150 registration and processing
Less
- $10
Registration fee (amount Learnet Academy may
retain)
Less
- $140
Processing fee (amount Learnet Academy may retain):
waived for veterans and eligible persons,
Times
x 470
Clock hours of instruction not attempted
Divided By
+ 720
Hours of instruction for which student has paid
Equals
= $4,439
Initial refund amount
Plus
+$150
Documentedcost of returned equipment
Equals
= $4,589 1
Actual refund amount
* If the student returns the equipment in good condition, the actual refund to the student
would be $4,589 ($4,439 + $150). For the purpose of determining the amount the student
owes for the time attended, he/she shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the course
when any of the following occurs:
1. He/she notifies Learnet Academy of withdrawal, or the actual date of withdrawal.
2. Learnet Academy terminates the student's Enrollment Agreement.
3.
