NUR 521. Ethics, Leadership, Policy & Finance in <br />the Healthcare System (3) <br />Integrates ethical principles in decision malting and the <br />application of ethically sound solutions to complex <br />issues related to individuals, populations and systems <br />of care. Presents an intensive examination of the role of <br />organizational leaders in building and leading high <br />performance teams for maximum effectiveness. Health <br />care policy as a framework is utilized in this course to <br />analyze how healthcare delivery systems are designed <br />and delivered in the United States. Emphasis is placed <br />on leadership issues related to cost, quality, access, <br />disparities, and finance. <br />NUR 522. Healthcare Quality and Safety (3) <br />Focuses on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed <br />to assure quality patient centered care provided <br />through interdisciplinary collaborative care. Students <br />will focus on strategies that contribute to building a <br />culture of safety assuring accountability and reliability <br />in care processes. <br />NUR 523. Advanced Physical Assessment and <br />Diagnostic Reasoning (3) Lab <br />Focuses on assessment of health status of individuals <br />and families throughout the lifespan addressing <br />cultural and developmental variations. This course <br />focuses on the clinical reasoning needed in planning, <br />delivering and evaluating care directed at disease <br />prevention, health promotion and restoration, across <br />the life span to diverse clients. Emphasis is placed on <br />the differentiation between normal and abnormal <br />findings, recognition of common health problems, <br />development of a differential diagnosis and the process <br />of critically evaluating problems related to <br />adult/geriatric health. Prerequisite to all specialty <br />courses <br />NUR 524. Advanced Pathophysiology (3) <br />Focuses on pathological conditions encountered in <br />clinical practice across the life span in individuals and <br />families. Emphasis is placed on regulatory and ' <br />compensatory mechanisms as they relate to commonly <br />occurring disease. Disease process is emphasized <br />throughout the course. <br />NUR 526. Advanced Pharmacology and Clinical <br />Decision Making (3) <br />Focuses on the knowledge and application of advanced <br />pharmacotherapeutic principles related to the health <br />needs of individuals and families. Emphasis is on the <br />pharmacotherapeutic modalities applied by advanced <br />practice nurses in primary care settings. <br />NUR 530. Principles of Advanced Practice Nursing <br />(1.5) <br />Examination of the role of the Advanced Practice Nurse <br />and Family Nurse Practitioner. Introduces the <br />competencies and other foundational components of <br />advanced practice nursing and the nurse practitioner. <br />Subjects include role associated with professional <br />practice and career development, use of technology, <br />evidence -based decision -making, leadership, change, <br />collaboration, and outcome evaluation. <br />NUR 531. Advanced Practice Nursing Skills Lab <br />(0.5) <br />Introduction to and practice of skills and procedures <br />used by Family Nurse Practitioners in the primary care <br />clinical setting. The shills lab will include common <br />diseases and disorders and appropriate interventions <br />by the Family Nurse Practitioner. Emphasis is placed <br />on patient consent, safety and efficacy in practice, and <br />procedural skills used in primary care patients. <br />NUR 532. Health Promotion Disease and Disease <br />Prevention (3) <br />This course focuses on current issues, theories, and <br />research in health promotion and disease prevention <br />related to individuals, families, and communities. This <br />course focuses on the role of the advanced practice <br />nurse on assessment, counseling, education, and <br />clinical issues relevant to health promotion throughout <br />the lifespan. <br />NUR 540. Advanced Practice Care of <br />Adulty/Geriatric 1 (2) <br />Study of the advanced practice management of adult <br />and geriatric primary care patients with common acute <br />and chronic illnesses and health and developmental <br />problems in a variety of health care settings. The <br />Family Nurse Practitioner assumes responsibility and <br />accountability for health promotion, assessment, <br />diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic <br />illnesses and patient problems, including the <br />prescription of pharmacological agents for treatment. <br />Developing sound clinical decision -malting and <br />diagnostic reasoning skills are highlighted.
