Parks, Recreation, and Community Services <br />www.santa-ana.org/parks <br />Item # 23 <br />City of Santa Ana <br />20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 <br /> Staff Report <br />March 1, 2022 <br />TOPIC: School Collaboration City Council Subcommittee <br />AGENDA TITLE: <br />Discuss and Provide Input Regarding the Structure of the School Collaboration City <br />Council Subcommittee <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Discuss and provide input regarding the structure of the School Collaboration City Council <br />Subcommittee that will add an element for joint meetings with Santa Ana Unified School <br />District Governing Board. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City Council established a Joint Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) and City <br />Council Committee in January 2013 and then disbanded it in February 2020, along with <br />all other subcommittees. On March 2, 2021, the Mayor appointed several <br />councilmembers to ad hoc committees to discuss discrete policy issues: Solid Waste Ad <br />Hoc Committee, Housing Ad Hoc Committee, Homeless Ad Hoc Committee and School <br />Collaboration Ad Hoc Committee. In particular, the School Collaboration Ad Hoc <br />Committee met five times to review and discuss opportunities to collaborate with the <br />various educational institutions in Santa Ana, including all of the public school districts <br />that serve Santa Ana. <br />On August 27, 2021, the School Collaboration Ad Hoc Committee recommended the City <br />Council disband the Ad Hoc Committee and consider a resolution to establish a standing <br />subcommittee that could jointly meet with the SAUSD Governing Board and legislative <br />bodies from other educational institutions. On September 7, 2021, the City Council <br />received direction from the School Collaboration Ad Hoc Committee and adopted <br />Resolution 2021-051 establishing a standing subcommittee, the School Collaboration <br />City Council Subcommittee (Subcommittee). <br />The Subcommittee held their first meeting on October 12, 2021. The Subcommittee, by <br />majority vote, approved the bylaws for the Subcommittee on November 9, 2021 (Exhibit <br />1) and elected the Chair and Vice Chair officers of the Subcommittee.
