Blood Pressure Cuff <br />Stethoscope <br />Thermometer <br />Computer <br />Graduation Requirement: <br />Upon completion of all sections of the program, with a grade average of no less than 70% and passing a <br />comprehensive practical and written examination of all skills and knowledge attained, the successful <br />graduate will receive a certificate as a Hemodialysis Technician. <br />Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP): 51.1011 <br />Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Code: 29-2099 <br />Licensure Requirement <br />Certification and licensing is a requirement for dialysis technicians in all states, and maintaining licensure involves <br />continuing education. All states have established training and testing programs that result in the title of Certified <br />Hemodialysis Technician (CHT). All states require that prospective state -certified technicians be first certified by <br />the Board of Nephrology Examination for Nurses and Technicians (BONENT). Although it varies from state to state, <br />licensed technicians are expected to complete a specific number of hours of continuing education to renew their <br />licenses every 2-4 years. <br />1) Education <br />a) Have a high school diploma or equivalency (GED or High School equivalency). <br />2) Training <br />a) Have successfully completed a training program that is approved by the medical director and governing <br />body of a <br />Hemodialysis clinic/unit, under the direction of an RN. The training program must be approved by CDPH <br />prior to <br />Implementation; OR <br />b) Have successfully completed a community or corporate -based training program, or a training program <br />offered by <br />an educational institution approved by CDPH. <br />c) Have passed a written examination offered by a Hemodialysis clinic/unit, or a community or corporate - <br />based training program that meets California law and a skills checklist observed by an RN. <br />3) Test / Examination <br />a) Have successfully passed a standardized test that is approved by CDPH; OR <br />b) Have successfully passed an examination offered by a national, commercially available, certification <br />program for <br />CHTs, which is approved for this purpose by CMS. <br />Program Externship Requirements: <br />The student must provide proof of the following: <br />1. Hepatitis B surface antibody blood test. <br />2. Hepatitis B surface antigen blood test. <br />3. Tuberculin (TB) skin test or chest film, within the last 12 months. <br />4.
