The course will cover theories and techniques of intervention and resolution. Students will learn to assess and react to various crises involving suicide, homicide, Intimate partner violence, sexual assault/abuse, bereavement/grief, substance abuse, natural disasters, war, and terrorism. Participants will become aware of resources available to assist individuals with psychiatric disabilities in crisis. Medical aspects of crisis intervention will be taught as well as the effective use of clinical supervision. Consumer empowerment strategies will also be covered.
