classification if such work is duly and specifically authorized by the <br />employee's Department Head. <br />2. Whenever practicable, the appointing authority shall rotate TUG assignments <br />among all qualified employees. <br />3. Employees in the following categories shall not be assigned to TUG work <br />unless specifically authorized by the City Manager: <br />a. Non -permanent employees (probationary, part-time, seasonal, etc.). <br />b. Employees performing work above their regular classification in a training <br />capacity. <br />C. Payment <br />On the eleventh (I Ith) consecutive working day an employee has been serving <br />in a TUG assignment, and for each additional consecutive working day the <br />employee so serves, they shall receive the beginning rate (Step "AAA") <br />assigned to the higher classification or the lowest rate in that range which is at <br />least ten (10) salary rate ranges, or approximately five percent (5.0%) higher <br />than the current base salary rate they normally receive, (inclusive of lead pay <br />and exclusive of any other assignment or special pay additive or additives) <br />whichever is greater, except when placement at Step "E" will not be sufficient <br />to provide the ten (10) salary rate range increase. Effective January 1, 2023, <br />employees eligible to receive TUG pay as provided for in this provision shall <br />receive the beginning rate (Step "AAA") assigned to the higher classification <br />or the lowest rate in that range which is at least five percent (5.0%) higher than <br />the base salary they normally receive (inclusive of lead pay and exclusive of <br />any other assignment or special pay additive or additives) whichever is greater, <br />except when placement at Step "E" will not be sufficient to provide <br />approximately five percent (5.0%) salary increase. <br />If an employee has worked ten (10) consecutive days during the term of this <br />MOU in a higher classification, the employee shall thereafter receive TUG pay <br />for each day the employee is assigned to work in the higher classification during <br />the term of this MOU. <br />2. Assignment or special pay additives, such as bilingual pay, shift differential, <br />special skill pay, etc., paid to an employee prior to becoming eligible for TUG <br />assignment pay, will not be considered in computing the amount of higher pay <br />to which they are entitled in this section above. If the special circumstances <br />upon which said additive is based are also applicable to the TUG assignment <br />and the employee remains eligible for such pay while in the TUG position, this <br />amount will be added to the new salary rate range. <br />2022-2025 MOU City of Santa Ana & SEIU Full -Time Employees Unit Page 26 <br />City Council 42 — 28 6/6/2023 <br />
