-44
JEROME PARK OUTDOOR LIBRARY
So much more than a park or a library
PlaceWorks is currently working with the City of Santa Ana to develop
its first outdoor library. Anchored by a library vending machine, the
outdoor library will include public space for residents to recreate, learn,
and play. The city's vision includes a multidisciplinary space that can host
programs and events and also serve as a educational space for children
and adults. Working with grant funding from the COVID-19 relief program,
PlaceWorks is developing design concepts that creatively embrace that
vision within the budget of the grant program with focused attention on
implementation to complete the project within the proposed schedule.
Working within an existing park, the PlaceWorks team is carefully
examining existing conditions to create a design that integrates seamlessly
with the park and maintains key park assets, like existing shade trees. The
team is also conducting a tailored outreach program focused on reaching
out to the local community and nearby residents, including working with
high school students in the leadership group at Kid Works, a local non-
profit focused on youth development.
The PlaceWorks team developed two conceptual alternatives based on
different themes and offering differing site aesthetics. The project team
is currently working with the community and the City to evaluate these
designs and move to a preferred concept. After finalizing the preferred
concepts, the team will develop full construction documents with plans,
specifications, and estimates, and will support the City with construction
administration.
Location
Santa Ana, California
Size
2 acres
Client
City of Santa Ana
Date Completed
Ongoing
Services Provided
Landscape Architecture, Community
Engagement
Return to Proposal page 1-17
® PLACEWORKS A_55
