DocuSign Envelope ID: A8CBD79E-49CB49A9-BE5B-498AO2933D51
Harvey Milk Park + Equity Plaza '0
Long Beach, CA011
Harvey Milk Park is in the process of being
transformed into a space that is open and
welcoming to the community around it.
The centerpiece of Harvey Milk Park is Equality Plaza, which
commemorates Milk and includes plaques with the names of local
LGBTQ leaders on its Memorial Wall. The landscape improvement
effort led by Studio One Eleven fully utilizes the space through multi-
functional seating areas and a hardscape plaza with new lighting,
trees and drought tolerant planting design. The plaza includes a
concrete replica of the famous "Soapbox" Milk stood on to inspire
crowds when he spoke and was re -envisioned as an active gathering
space centered around a historic WPA mural.
Client: City of Long Beach
Contact: Christopher Koontz, Director of Community Development,
Christopher.koontz@longbeach.gov, (582) 570-6288
Completed: 2017-2019
Consultant Project Manager: Kirk Keller
0Z
