SCIT Catalog <br />ABOUT SCIT <br />MISSION STATEMENT <br />We seek to create a hands-on learning experience within a <br />student -centric culture that teaches industry relevant skills, <br />fosters ingenuity, nurtures teamwork, develops critical thinking, <br />and has a transformative impact on students seeking professional <br />success in order to advance our communities. <br />VISION & PURPOSE <br />Founded to deliver effective, quality education focusing on <br />application of technology, SCIT will be a leader in producing <br />technological talent by: <br />• Affording the opportunity for students to apply their <br />knowledge and reinforce their learning through hands-on <br />instruction; <br />Fostering ingenuity and a mindset of intellectual curiosity; <br />• Empowering students with the Industry relevant knowledge <br />and skills to seek greater opportunities; <br />• Supporting a dynamic faculty dedicated to teaching, <br />mentoring, and encouraging students; <br />• Offering comprehensive curricula that is responsive to the <br />needs of students, employers and communities. <br />VALUES <br />We value an academic culture of integrity, accountability and <br />diversity, thus enriching the learning environment and preparing <br />our students to succeed as industry and community leaders. <br />DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT <br />SCIT is committed to creating a diverse community that is <br />Inclusive, responsive and supportive of each and all of Its <br />students, faculty and staff. The institute recognizes that students <br />benefit from a learning atmosphere that is Inclusive of <br />participants from all manner of backgrounds, and encourages <br />students to maintain diverse perspectives throughout their lives <br />and strive to be responsible members of our community <br />grounded on shared principles of fairness and respect toward one <br />another. <br />HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE <br />Southern California Institute of Technology (SCIT) was founded in <br />1987 by a small team of educators with a vision to build an <br />Institution that prides itself on providing quality education by <br />means of an application centered, hands-on teaching approach. <br />SCIT first opened Its doors in Anaheim, CA with a single classroom <br />and offered diploma programs In the areas of electronics and <br />computers. <br />The Institution became accredited by the Accrediting Commission <br />of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) In 1995 and soon <br />thereafter began offering Associates and Bachelor's degrees In <br />the engineering and business disciplines. <br />The institution grew over the years and built a reputation within <br />the business community for producing technically qualified <br />Page 4 of 69 <br />graduates. The institution received many equipment donations <br />from various companies from time to time and has used those <br />donations along with substantial internal investments to build <br />educational lab facilities to support Its mission of providing quality <br />hands-on education. <br />Since its inception, SCIT has attempted to bridge the positive <br />qualities of multiple types of higher education institutions across <br />the educational spectrum, from trade schools to traditional four <br />year universities. The school seeks to develop an educational <br />curricula that meet the academic standards expected of senior <br />colleges and universities while also infusing a hands-on <br />educational approach that provides an academic experience <br />where conceptual topics are cemented into the learning process <br />through application based lab work. <br />LEGALSTATUS <br />Southern California Institute of Technology is a wholly owned <br />subsidiary of Southern California Education Corporation, <br />Anaheim, California SCIT President and CEO: Parviz Shams. <br />SCIT does not have pending petition in bankruptcy, is not <br />operating as a debtor In possession, has not filed a petition within <br />the preceding five years, and has not had a petition in bankruptcy <br />flied against it within the preceding five years that resulted in <br />reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy <br />Code (11 U.S.C. Sec. 1101 et seq.). <br />ACCREDITATION <br />Southern California Institute of Technology is accredited by the <br />Accrediting Commission of Career School and Colleges (ACCSC). <br />ACCSC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an <br />accrediting agency. All programs listed in this catalog are <br />accredited by ACCSC as of this Catalogs publication date. <br />AGENCIES & APPROVALS <br />Southern California Institute of Technology is a private institution <br />approved to operate in the State of California by the Bureau for <br />Private Postsecondary Education. Approval to operate means <br />being in compliance with state standards as set forth in the CEC <br />and 5, CRC. Any questions a student may have regarding this <br />catalog that have not been satisfactorily answered by the <br />Institution may be directed to the Bureau for Private <br />Postsecondary Education at 1747 N. Market Blvd., Suite 225, <br />Sacramento, CA 95834, www.bppe.ca.gov, toll free telephone <br />number (888) 370-7589 or by fax (916) 574-8900. As a prospective <br />student, you are encouraged to review this catalog prior to <br />signing an enrollment agreement. You are also encouraged to <br />review the School Performance Fact Sheet, which must be <br />provided to you prior to signing an enrollment agreement. <br />Additional approvals include: <br />• SCIT is approved to participate in federal student aid <br />programs <br />• SCIT is approved to participate In veterans education <br />benefits programs under Title 38 of the GI BIII" for eligible <br />veteran students. GI Bill°' Is a registered trademark of the <br />U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More Information <br />about education benefits offered by VA is available at the <br />official U.S. government Web site at <br />https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill. <br />• SCIT is approved by the California Department of Industrial <br />Relations, Division of Apprenticeship Standards to offer the <br />Whole General Electrician Curriculum <br />
