SCIT Catalog <br />SCHOOL EMAIL ACCOUNTS <br />The school utilizes a cloud -based platform provided by Google <br />("Gmail Accounts") to provide students with school email <br />accounts. Students are assigned a school email account normally <br />within one month after beginning their enrollment at the school. <br />The school email account also serves as a Google Account that <br />enables students to access a variety of Google Apps and Services <br />while attending school. <br />OWNERSHIP, PRIVACY AND RIGHT OF ACCESS DISCLOSURE <br />The school owns all school email accounts, including all data <br />transmitted or stored using the schools email accounts, subject to <br />underlying copyright and intellectual property rights under <br />applicable laws. While the school will make every effort to keep <br />email messages secure, privacy is not guaranteed and students <br />should have no general expectation of privacy in email messages <br />sent through school email accounts. Under certain circumstances, <br />it may be necessary for school officials to access and Inspect <br />school email accounts. These circumstances may Include, but are <br />not limited to, maintaining the system, investigating security or <br />abuse incidents or investigating violations of school policies. The <br />school reserves and retains the right to access and inspect stored <br />information on school email accounts without the consent of the <br />user. All school email users are bound by the schools Acceptable <br />Use Policy and Google's Acceptable Use Policy, which can be <br />found at the following URL <br />https://gsuite.google.com/Intl/en/terms/use_policy.htmi, <br />EXPIRATION OF SCHOOL EMAIL ACCOUNTS <br />Students may leave the school for a variety of reasons, which <br />gives rise to differing situations regarding the length of email <br />privileges or expiration of accounts. The school does not <br />guarantee school email accounts to be active after the student <br />graduates or withdraws from the school. The school will establish <br />policies, which may change from time to time, about the length of <br />time it will allow school email accounts to remain active after a <br />student leaves the school. The most recent policy in regards to <br />the expiration of school email accounts can be obtained by <br />contacting the Student Services Office. <br />ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY <br />This policy details specific requirements for the use of school <br />email accounts. The school reserves the right to suspend any <br />student's school email account for violation of this policy or any <br />policy outlined in the Student Code of Conduct or Computer Use <br />Policy in the most recently published school catalog. <br />Students given a school email account are expected to use such <br />accounts for academic purposes and protect their accounts from <br />unauthorized use. The exchange of any email content below is <br />prohibited: <br />• Generating unsolicited bulk emails; <br />Infringing on or assisting with the infringement on another <br />person's copyright or other property rights; <br />• Violating or encouraging the violation of any federal or state <br />laws; <br />Intentionally distributing viruses, worms, Trojan horses, <br />malware, corrupted files, hoaxes, or other items of a <br />destructive or deceptive nature; <br />• Generating or forwarding content that is profane, abusive, <br />harassing, excessively violent, may incite or threaten <br />violence, inappropriate or sexually offensive; <br />• Creating a risk to a person's safety or health, creating a risk <br />to public safety or health, or interfering with an <br />investigation by law enforcement; <br />• Misrepresenting the identity of the sender of an email or <br />misrepresenting the nature of the Individuals relationship <br />with the school; or <br />• Acting as an agent or official of the school or conducting <br />business under the aegis of the school without the school's <br />explicit authorization. <br />DRESS CODE <br />The dress code is "Casual, but modest". No offensive statements <br />on clothing ate permitted. <br />SAFETY, FOOD & DRINK POLICY <br />Students are required to observe all standard safety precautions. <br />Students are not permitted to move any equipment or furniture <br />on the campus. Students are not permitted to have food or drink <br />In any of the buildings, except for water in spill proof containers. <br />CELL PHONE USAGE POLICY <br />Students may not use cell phones in the classroom or In areas <br />marked as for no cell phones usage on the school premises. <br />Unauthorized use of cell phones is In violation of the student code <br />of conduct. <br />ACCOMMODATIONS FOR DISABLED STUDENTS <br />Students with disabilities may request for reasonable <br />accommodations to attend school by submitting a request In <br />writing to the Student Services Office stating the following: (1) a <br />description of the nature of the disability, (2) how the disability <br />affects his or her ability to perform in academic activities at the <br />school, and (3) the specific accommodations he or she Is <br />requesting the school to make available. For certain cases, the <br />school may request additional documentation that may Include, <br />but is not limited to, a recent letter from a medical professional <br />that verifies the disability and provides recommendations for <br />reasonable accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are <br />made available providing the requested accommodations do not <br />cause an undue financial or administrative burden on the school, <br />Page 34 of 69 <br />
