He has coordinated, performed, or directed geotechnical investigations for over 200
projects, many of which have been for Cities in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
He has practical experience in all aspects (design and construction) of geotechnical engineering, including site
selection, field investigations, engineering analyses, recommendations, construction observation and testing,
and preparation of geotechnical reports and recommendations.
Professional Experience
OCTA OC Street Streetcar, Orange County, CA — Geotechnical manager for the design and construction
of a two -track streetcar system from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC) in Santa Ana to
the proposed Regional Transit Connection and station in Garden Grove, approximately 4 miles. The project
also includes design and construction of maintenance and storage facility and two new bridge
structures. DYA provided a geotechnical investigation for the entire alignment, including soil borings,
laboratory analysis, engineering analyses, and preparing reports; they also performed an environmental site
assessment in OCTA's Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way from Harbor Boulevard to North Raitt Street.
Mr. Niranjanan reviewed existing geotechnical/geological data, coordinated permitting process for
geotechnical encroachment permits from various agencies such as OCTA, City of Santa Ana, and County of
Orange, coordinated subsurface explorations, assigned laboratory testing performed engineering analyses,
attended design meetings, prepared reports with geotechnical recommendations, and is providing direction
for construction observation services.
MWDOC Seismic Retrofit Project, Fountain Valley, CA — Geotechnical manager for engineering and
construction management services for a seismic retrofit of MWDOC's Administration Building located in
Fountain Valley, CA. DYA's scope of work included spectral acceleration parameters for two ground
motions. Mr. Niranjanan prepared a technical memorandum summarizing the seismic design parameters.
Edinger Avenue over Santa Ana River, Santa Ana, CA — Geotechnical project engineer for widening the
existing Edinger Avenue Bridge over the Santa Ana River. The bridge is located within the County of Orange
jurisdiction; the City of Fountain Valley boundary is immediately west of the bridge and the City of Santa
Ana boundary is immediately east of the bridge. The existing bridge is a 7-span structure that is approximately
300 feet long and supported on piles. Associated roadway improvements on Edinger Avenue and retaining
walls up to 12 feet high were proposed west of the proposed bridge widening. The Santa Ana River is concrete
lined at the bridge location. DYA's scope of services included reviewing geotechnical data, performing
geotechnical explorations, conducting laboratory testing, performing engineering analysis and reporting.
DYA's work was completed on time and on budget. Mr. Niranjanan developed and coordinated the field
investigation and analyses and prepared the geotechnical report with recommendations.
