Grain Size Distribution: Representative samples were dried, weighed, and soaked in water until individual <br />soil particles were separated (per ASTM D421) and then washed on a No. 200 sieve. Samples were placed in a consolidometer and a load <br />approximately equal to the in -situ overburden pressure was applied. Water was then added to the sample <br />and the percent hydro -consolidation under the applied load was measured. The percent for the load was <br />calculated as the ratio of the amount of vertical deformation to the original sample height.
