Adult Fiction: <br />• Put call number in 099 with prefix of FIC followed by author's last name and first initial. For <br />books with no author, use first word of the title as the cutter. <br />B. Adult Nonfiction: <br />■ Put Dewey number in 092. Cut Dewey number at five places after the decimal. <br />• Put call number in 099: Dewey number followed by cutter of up to the first 3 letters of the <br />author's last name. <br />• For books with no author, do not use a cutter — use Dewey number only. <br />• For authors with less than 3 letters in their last name, use up to 3 letters of the first word of <br />their last name. Ex: 101 De La Cervantes, use 101 DE <br />C. Auto repair: <br />• Use the make of the automobile, first 3 letters, as the cutter. <br />D. Biographies: <br />• In OCLC if the first subject heading is for the person and Biog in the fixed field is coded b <br />make the book a biography. <br />• Do not use tag 092. Use only 099 with Dewey of 92 followed by cutter of the last name first <br />initial of the biographee from the 600 field. <br />• Collective biographies: if the biography is about two or more people with the same last <br />name, use the last name, with no initial. If the book is about two or more people with different <br />names, choose the better known or the more important for the subject of the book. If it is about <br />more than 2 people, class it in the Dewy subject area. <br />E. Civil service books: <br />■ Class in Dewey 351.3. <br />F. Criticism: <br />• For critical appraisal of artists, architects, authors, film makers, musical performers or groups use <br />the name of the person or group as the cutter, first 3 letters. <br />■ For critical appraisal of a film, television show, opera, ballet, etc. use the title of the work as the <br />cutter, first 3 letters. <br />G. Computer books: <br />• If using a number in DDC 004-006 or 025.04, for a computer program, language, operating <br />system, use the program, etc. from the subject heading as the cutter, first 3 letters. <br />H. Foreign language: <br />a) Adult Fiction: <br />• Put foreign language prefix in 099 with FIC prefix followed by author's last name and first <br />initial: SP FIC NIX S. <br />b) Adult Nonfiction: <br />• Put Dewey number in 092. <br />• Put foreign language prefix and call number in 099: SP Dewey number followed by cutter <br />of the first 3 letters of the author's last name. <br />I. Graphic Novel: <br />• Use first word of title as cutter. <br />J.
