Conduct by a student outside of class which for any reason materially disrupts classwork or involves substantial <br />disorder or invasion of the rights of others is not protected by the constitutional guarantee of free speech. <br />Gifts to School Personnel <br />Board Policy 5133 <br />The Governing Board believes that feelings of appreciation can be expressed in many ways. The Board <br />discourages students and parents/guardians from giving gifts to staff members and instead encourages them to <br />write personal notes of appreciation. When accepting gifts, staff should be sensitive to the feelings of other <br />students and use discretion if gifts are opened in front of others. <br />Infectious Diseases <br />Board Policy 5141.22 <br />The Governing Board recognizes its dual responsibility to protect -the health of students from risks posed by <br />infectious diseases and to uphold the right of students to appropriate education. <br />For purposes of this policy, infectious diseases shall include all those listed by the State Department of Health <br />Services and county health departments. <br />All applicable education and health codes will govern and guide administrative decisions regarding students with <br />identified infectious diseases. <br />The Superintendent shall ensure that all student rights to confidentiality are strictly observed in accordance with <br />the law and policy governing the confidentiality of student records. <br />Instructional Planning <br />Board Policy 6156 <br />The Board of Trustees affirms the importance of providing all students with quality instruction designed to teach <br />life skills that demonstrate the value of work and lead to employment or prepares students for advanced training <br />for employment. <br />Collaborative planning with staff, district, community, and industry representatives is necessary to identify school <br />and community needs. This collaboration supports well -coordinated instructional programs that reflect industry <br />standards and practices. <br />Non-Discrimination/Harassment <br />Board Policy 5145.3 and Administrative Regulation 5145.3 <br />The Governing Board desires to provide a safe learning environment that allows all students equal access and <br />opportunities in the ROP's academic, extracurricular, and other activities. The Board prohibits bullying based on <br />the student's actual or perceived age, ancestry, color, ethnic group, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender <br />identity, genetic information, immigration status, marital status, military status, national origin, nationality, <br />parental status, physical or mental disability, political beliefs, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, <br />veteran status, or any other legally protected status or association with a person or group with one or more of <br />these actual or perceived characteristics or identification, or discriminatory harassment or intimidation. Unlawful <br />discrimination, including discriminatory harassment, intimidation, or bullying, may result from physical, verbal, <br />nonverbal, or written conduct based on any of the categories listed above. <br />Unlawful discrimination also includes the creation of a hostile environment through prohibited conduct that is so <br />severe, persistent, or pervasive that it affects a student's ability to participate in or benefit from an educational <br />program or activity; creates an intimidating, threatening, hostile, or offensive educational environment; has the <br />effect of substantially or unreasonably interfering with a student's academic performance; or otherwise adversely <br />affects a student's educational opportunities. <br />12 <br />
