Flores, Dora
From: Emily Bergmann <
Sent: Tuesday, March 5, 2024 6:19 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Agenda Item 18, 3/5/24
Hello my name is Emily, and I urge the council to support Item 18, the Ceasefire Resolution.
I was born here in Santa Ana, raised only 10-15 minutes from these chambers, and years ago I proudly
graduated from Santa Ana college.
This city is a part of me and as such I feel deeply invested in shaping the governance of this town & ensuring
that the folks who are elected to represent me and my community do so honestly, fairly, and with integrity.
With this in mind, I urge Santa Ana city council to pass a ceasefire resolution.
I am not Palestinian, though I do have the great honor of knowing and loving many Palestinians and Palestinian
Americans here in Orange County. As an American of conscience, I strongly oppose the use of my tax dollars
to fund genocide in Gaza. The US continues to drop bombs alongside bread —this is not what US taxpayers,
what your constituents, the people of Santa Ana, have asked for.
The unfortunate reality is that genocides do stop of their own accord, but through strong and direct international
pressure. The United States has the power to end this nightmare, and yet the government continues to violate the
will of the people and of all that is good and just and holy, by funding Israel's violent campaign of displacement
and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.
You, council members, are our voice to the state. You are our voice to the federal government. Many of those
who were elected to represent me are simply not listening, and this is why I need you to be my voice. To be
brave. To stand for what is right.
Join the growing number of cities across America who are standing for justice by passing a ceasefire resolution.
Thank you,
Emily Izquierdo Ortiz
10
