Flores, Dora
From: Gwynn Van Houten <
Sent: Tuesday, March 5, 2024 6:27 PM
To: eComment
Subject: E-Comment on Agenda Item 18 of Regular Council Meeting March 5, 2024
Dear esteemed council,
For nearly five months the residents of the great city of Santa Ana have been standing up there at the podium, resilient
in their struggle to be heard no matter how many times you close the door on them. No matter how many times they
have been silenced and harassed inside and outside that chamber. For the fight for Palestinian liberation is a righteous
one and we know this. There is no excuse to claim ignorance. This genocide may be the most broadcast in history.
Residents here are being directly affected by the loss of family, by hate crimes, by the knowledge that their taxes fund
the death and dismemberment of the densest population on earth. We are tired of being complicit in a genocide and
hearing excuses for why we should instead sit down and cover our ears. That is why a vote for a ceasefire is necessary. It
is only the first step. It must be followed by action —divestment from the Zionist project, allocation of funds to
community aid, and lasting solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Dear Mayor and Councilmembers, there are people here that want to return to their home without fear of having their
lives and culture erased. They want to know their people will be safe. Wouldn't you want the same for yourself and your
family?
Thank you.
Gwynn Van Houten
Concerned OC Resident
16
