Alcala, Abigail
From: Chelsea Velez <
Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2024 1:42 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Urgent Request to Oppose Agenda Item #24: Protect Our Right to Protest
Amteiifl.Win, Tlfis eu uffl nror 0na1n°n9 fug-mnz onut;n de o, 'Cu y oro ' S: nu a Anna. Use can fionn when opelfing aflac4gun enu s or finks.
Dear Santa Ana City Council,
As a concerned member of the Santa Ana community, I am reaching out to urgently request your
opposition to Agenda Item #24.
I firmly believe that restricting our constituents' ability to protest in residential areas would constitute a
direct violation of our fundamental right to peaceful assembly and free expression. The ability to voice
dissent and advocate for change is a cornerstone of our democracy, and any measures that inhibit
this right are deeply concerning.
Protests often serve as a critical avenue for community members to raise awareness about issues
that directly impact their lives and neighborhoods. By attempting to limit protests to designated areas,
we risk silencing marginalized voices and undermining the democratic process.
I urge you to consider the broader implications of supporting such restrictions and to prioritize the
protection of our constitutional rights. Our community's ability to peacefully assemble and protest
must be safeguarded, not curtailed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I sincerely hope that you will stand with the
community in opposing Agenda Item #24.
Thanks,
Chelsea Velez (she/her/hers)
