SECTION 42: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 8-953 thereof to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 8-953. Riqid Metal Conduit. <br /> Section 346-1 of the National Electrical Code, <br />Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />1968 <br /> <br /> 346-1. Use. Rigid metal conduit may be used under all <br />atmospheric conditions and occupancies, except that ferrous <br />raceways and fittings protected from corrosion solely by <br />enamel may be used only indoors and in occupancies not <br />subject to severe corrosive influences. Where practicable, <br />dissimilar metals in contact anywhere in the system shall be <br />avoided to eliminate the possibility of galvanic action. <br />(See Section 300-5 for limitation in the use of ferrous <br />raceways and fittings protected from corrosion solely by <br />enamel) . <br /> Unless made of a material judged suitable for ~e condition, <br />or unless corrosion protection approved for the condition is <br />provided, ferrous or non-ferrous metallic conduit, elbows, <br />couplings, and fittings shall not be installed in concrete or <br />in direct contact with the earth, or in areas subject to <br />severe corrosive influences. Rigid metal conduit installed <br />underground shall be buried a minimum of one foot under grade <br />level unless protected by an approved method. <br /> <br /> SECTION 43: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 8-969 thereof to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 8-969. Electrical Metallic Tubinq. <br /> Section 348-1 of the National Electrical Code, <br />Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />1968 <br /> <br /> 348-1. Use. Electrical metallic tubing may be used for <br />both exposed and concealed work. Electrical metallic tubing <br />protected from corrosion solely by enamel shall not be used. <br />Electrical metallic tubing shall not be used (1) where, during <br />installation or afterwards, it will be subject to severe <br />physical damage; (2) for installation underground, in concrete, <br />or where exposed to the weather, or excessive moisture. Where <br />practicable, the use of dissimilar metals throughout the <br />system shall be avoided to eliminate the possibility of <br />galvanic action. (See Section 300-5 for limitation in the <br />use of ferrous raceways and fittings protected from corrosion <br />solely by enamel). <br /> <br /> SECTION 44: That the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby <br />amended by amending Section 8-979 thereof to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 8-979. Flexible Metal Conduit. <br /> Section 350-2 of the National Electrical Code, <br />Edition, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />1968 <br /> <br /> 350-2. Use. Flexible metal conduit shall not be used <br />(1) in wet locations, unless conductors are of the lead- <br />covered type or of other type specifically approved for the <br />conditions; (2) in hoistways, except as provided in Section <br />620-21; (3) in storage battery rooms; (4) in any hazardous <br />location except as permitted in Secti6ns 501-4(b), 502-4, <br />and 503-3; (5) where rubber-covered conductors are exposed <br />to oil, gasoline, or other materials having a deteriorating <br />effect on rubber; (6) for installation underground, exposed <br />to the water, embedded in masonry, concrete, adobe, plaster, <br />or similar finish; nor (7) where exposed to physical damage. <br /> <br />-21- <br /> <br /> <br />
