You are hereby notified to attend a special meeting of the Board of Trustees at the City Hall June ESrd, 1915 at E p.~.~, to discuss a report of a com~.ittee sub- mitted in relation to the Opera House. Frank Present, Trustees HcPhee, Greenleaf, Grubb and Absent, The President of the Board of Trustees being absent Trustee Grubb was named as President pro rem. In reply to your request for an ol_inion repairs are necessar~ to make the Gr~ud Opera House perfectly safe for any capacity load that may be ~ermitted in it, we wish to report as follows: After a careful examination we found that the building had been well constructed with a factor of safety of approximately E to 1, which, while providing for any ordinary test does not meet the requirements of the best factors at the present time. We therefore reco- mmend that additions be made to increase the strength to carry a live load of 150 pounds per square foot with a factor of safety of 4 to 1. To meet this requirement we suggest that the following additions be made: 1st. That the beams under the lobl0y and entrance be strengthened by the addition of four $" X 1E" E5 Sb. channels. End. That the beams suI~porting the main auditoriur~ be strengthened by the addition of 16 ~" X 1E'~ EC~ lb. channels. ~rd. That the gallery be supported by an addtional 1E" X 18" girder extending from wall to ~all; placed approximately 14 or 16 feet from the one now in pla~e; the beam to be supported on the walls at the ends and on ~ 5" iron columns resting on brick wall and l~iers, below le~ding to basement. ~th. That an additional 8 ft. exit be ~rovtded at the N.E. corner of the main auditorium, with a stairway lead- ing to th~ ground. 8th. That the fire escapes be provided at the N.M. ~d M.W. corners of the gallery leading to the stairway below. 8th. That all exits and f~re escapes be marked by exit signs and red lights and provided with panic bolts. The following report was submitted:
