<br />This being the time and place fixed for the opening of
<br />bids or proposals for the work ordered done and improve-
<br />ment made upon and along Parton. Street~,St. Andrew,s
<br />Place, Sycamore Street, Broadway, Birch Street and Ross
<br />Street, according to Resolution of Intention No. 221S,
<br />and the City Council being duly convened in open session
<br />proceeded to and did publicly open, examine and declare
<br />

<br />On motion of Trustee Kelly, seconded by Sutton and car-
<br />ried, the bids were referred to the Engineer for
<br />to report back at this meeting. Following the report,
<br />the City Council awarded the contract to P.P. Janich as
<br />the lowest responsible bidder therefor. A resolution
<br />was introduced awarding the contract to P.P. Janieh.
<br />Clerk was instructed to return checks of unsuccessful
<br />bidders. The resolution was ordered filed, read, consid-
<br />ered, designated Resolution No. 2229 and passed by the
<br />following vote:

<br />A resolution was introduced aslfollows:
<br />
<br /> "~hereas, the Pacific Electric Railway Company has made
<br />an application to the Railroad Commission of the State of
<br />California for a permit to discontinuepassenger service
<br />upon the Santa Ana-Orange line, and the Railroad Commis-
<br />sion has refused to grant such permit unless consented to
<br />by the City Councils of the Cities of Santa Aha and
<br />respectively, and
<br /> Whereas, said matter has been submitted to the City
<br /> Council of the City of Santa Aha, and a hearing held
<br /> thereon, amd th~ matter has been given due consideration
<br /> Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved: That the City
<br />of the City c~ Santa Ana hereby consents to the discon-
<br />tinuance of the passenger service upon the Santa Ana-
<br />Orange Pacific Electric line, on condition that the
<br />Pacific Electric Railway Company will remove the double
<br />tracks now existing on North Main Street in said City,
<br />between Fourth Street and Sixth Street, and replace the
<br />same with a single track down the center of said street,
<br />when ordered by the City Council of said City to make
<br />said cha~ge."
