T. Lambert, County Auditor, giving Santa <br />Ana's estimated valuation for the year 1939-40 at $24,162,270 <br />was received and referred to the City Auditor. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Yost, seconded by Bruns ~nd carried, <br />the communication of the Chamber of Commerce soliciting coop- <br />eration in a project to secure a building to house fair <br />exhibits in connection with the Orange County Horse Show, <br />which now qualifies as an official county fair,with the pos- <br />sibility of securing funds from the State Fair and Exposition <br />Fund, was referred to the standing committee composed of <br />Trustees Smith and Eelsey. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Smith and carried, <br />the communication of Earl B. Lentz, Chief of Police, recom- <br />mending Patrolman John L. Casey for permanent appointment <br />as a member of the police department, was referred to the <br />Civil Service Commission. <br /> <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Yost, seconded by Bruns and carried, <br />the communication of The Metropolitan Water District inclos- <br />ing certified copy of Resolution No. 2987, levying a tax upo~ <br />taxable property lying within the City of Santa Aha, was <br /> <br />recelved and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of T~ustee <br /> <br />Bruns, seconded by Yost and carried, <br /> <br />the communication of Earl B. Lentz, Chief of Police, with <br />reference to application of Floyd W. Howard for appointment <br />as a police officer and the communication of Floyd W. Howard <br />giving notification that he reported .August 16th, 19~9, for <br />duty as sergeant on the Santa Aha Police Department, were <br />referred to the Civil Service Commission. <br /> <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Xelsey and carried, <br />the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute the <br /> <br />Renewal of Lease with the Pacific Electric Railway Company <br /> road <br />coverim~/croeslng at the right of way near the Joint Outfall <br /> <br />Sewer. <br /> <br /># <br /> <br />A communication was read of the First Baptist Church of Sant~ <br />Ana protesting against the proposed ordinance to permit danc~ <br />lng and the use of liquors at certain specified eating places <br />PetitiOns requesting the Council to adopt the new proposed <br />dance ordinance were also read. On motion of Trustee Bruns, <br />seconded by Yost and carried, the communication and petitions <br />were referred to the Council as a whole. <br /> <br /> <br />
