Smith) <br /> <br /> communication from the Chamber of Commerce urging the retention of <br /> Ordinance regulating public auctions, was received and filed. <br /> Communication of the Santa Ana Register was read petitioning the <br /> Council to revise Ordinance on plumbing and to repeal Ordinance go <br /> erning auction sales; also submitting 760 coupons turned into the <br /> <br />Register with reference to these Ordinances, and on motion of Trus <br />tee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, same were filed. <br />Messrs. DuMaurier, Frank H. Cooey, Gus E. VonHasseln and others <br /> <br /> expressed oral opinions that the Auction Ordinance was discrimin- <br /> atory and it should be repealed. Me~s~.mPhil Brown, Secretary of the <br /> Business Men's Association, 0rson Hunter, Frank Evans and others <br /> favored tb~ retention of the Ordinance. The Mayor requested a <br /> standing vote to be taken of the audience and a majority favored <br /> the present auction' 0rdinan~e. <br /> <br />Messrs. Frank Anderson, Carl M~eyer, Frank cooey, c. H. Hoiles and <br />E. C. Missildine voiced their opinions on the Plumbing Ordinance, <br />and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, <br />the following Ordinance entitled; <br /> <br /> "An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 821, entitled 'An <br /> Ordinance providing for the appointment of a Plumbing <br /> Inspector, defining his duties and fixing his compen. <br /> sation; regulating the method of constructing plumbing <br /> work, house drainage, and gas fitting, providing for <br /> the inspection thereof a~d the issuance of permits <br /> therefor; and providing a penalty for the violation of <br /> said Ordinauce ,, <br /> <br /> was introduced, read, considered and placed on file for second <br /> <br /> re adlng. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, communi- <br /> cation of the Planning Commission recommending the granting of <br /> variance to permit five lots within a proposed subdivision to be <br /> known as Tract No. 129~, to have an area less than 6000 sq.ft, eacl <br /> in accordance with application of the Veterans' of Foreign Wars, <br /> <br /> was approved. <br /> . <br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, communi- <br /> cation of the Planning Commission recommending the granting of <br /> variance application of Clark Dye to use t~ rear yard area of <br /> <br /> Lot 8, in Block 8, of Palmer's Addition, for a two-story commercia <br /> <br /> building with basement, was approved. <br />. <br /> On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, the <br /> following Ordinance entitled; <br /> <br /> "An Ordinance amending the Uniform Building Code, 1946 <br /> Edition, adopted by Ordinance No. 1180 of the City of <br /> <br />was <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Santa Ana" <br />read, considered, <br />followi~ vote: <br />Ayes, Trustees <br /> <br />Noes, Trustees <br />Absent, Trustees <br /> <br />designated Ordinance No. 1222 and passed by <br /> <br />W.J, Cheney, Courtney R.
