CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATION NUMBER 100. <br /> <br />Portland Cement Concrete Pavement. <br /> <br />(One Course) <br /> <br /> Upon a subgrade prepared as hereinbefore specified, and thoroughly dampened by means <br /> of a spray nozzle, shall be laid a Portland Cement Pavement of such width, thickness and <br /> cross sections as shown on the plans. <br /> <br /> (a) FORMS OR HEADERS. ~/here the pavement does not terminate against <br /> smother pavement, and along the edges when it does not terminate against a concrete curb <br /> or gutter, and before the final trimming of the subgrade, the Contractor shall set side <br /> forms or headers on a firm foundation true to line and grade. <br /> <br /> All timber side forms or headers shall be at least two (2) inebes thick and equal in <br /> width to the full thickness of the pavement, and shall be of good sound timber free from <br /> wasp, knots, or other imperfections. Their upper edges shall conform to the finished grade <br /> · nd cross-section of the pavement. <br /> <br /> All joints simll be scabbed with one inch lumber equal in width to the width of the <br /> ~ ~ ~t least'eighteen (18) inches long. <br /> <br /> ~ ~ ~,,,,$ or headers shall be held to the established line and grade by stakes <br /> ~ I~a~ ~ stakes shall be at least two (2) inches by three ($) inches and twenty (20) <br /> tm~es long, or longer if necessary, to properly support the headers. Stakes shall be placed <br /> ~nmediately adjacent to either side of the joint and at intervals of not more than thirty <br /> (~0) inches therefrom. <br /> <br /> Placing of concrete will not be permitted until the forms are absolutely firm and rigid <br /> ~d capable of resisting all tendency to spring out of line, or settle during the prOgress <br /> of the W°rk. <br /> <br /> If metal forms are used they must be of approved design and equal in width to the <br /> thickness of the pavement and shall be free from warp or other defects. <br /> <br /> (b) Where pavement edges are adjacent to curbs, temporary forms or headers shall <br /> be used as a guide to the final subgrade trimming and the laying of the pavement. All <br /> such temporary headers shall be set not more than two (2) feet from the curb and shall <br /> be of good sound timber free from warp, at least two (2) inches thick and equal in width <br /> to the thickness of the pavement. The top of the headers shall conform strictly to the grade <br /> of the pavement and shall be well staked with stakes of sufficient size and length and at <br /> such intervals as will insure rigidity under the templet in tamping of the concrete. Alt <br /> stakes and temporary headers are to be removed and the space filled with concrete prior <br /> to any finishing operation. <br /> <br />~TION 2. CONCRZT~ PROPORTIONS. <br /> <br /> The concrete shall be mixed in the proportion of one (1) bag of Portland Cement, to <br /> not more than two (2) cubic feet of fine aggregate to not more than four (4) cubic feet of <br /> co.se a~r~'ate, and in no case shall the volume o~ the fine ag~reg&te be less than one-h af <br /> (~) the volume of the coacse aggregate, <br /> <br /> Thi ~.ne ~ sl~ll co~siet of c~qerete san~ as hereinbefore spocified. <br /> <br /> <br />
