shall be closed sufficiently to prevent the entrance of water and the sewer tested for leak-
age, which, if found to occur, shall be located and stopped.

Leakage or infiltration of any nature shall be considered sufficient ground for rejection
of that portion of the sewer.

The interior of the sewer shall be kept free from all dirt and foreign material as the
work progresses and left clean upon its completion.

When noted on the plans, the joints of the pipes shall be entirely surrounded with
four (4) inches of Class "C" Concrete as hereinafter specified. This encasement of con.
crete shall extend at least six (6) inches on each side of the joint.

SBCTION 7. MORTAR.
All mortar used for' making pipe joints in sewers, unless otherwise specified on tt~e
plans, shall be composed of one (1) part of cement to two (2) parts of sand by volume.

All mortar used for resetting castings, manholes, or other rough work, shall be com-
posed of one (1) part of cement to two and one-half (2~) parts of sand, by volume, unless
othe~vise specified oo the drawings. All mortar used for plastering the interior of gush
tanks and manhloes shall consist of equal parts (by volume) of cement and sand.

All cement and sand shall comply with the requirements as hereinbefore speciifed,
except that the sand shall all pass a one-fourth (~) nich screen.

The cement and sand must be thoroughly mixed dry, until the mass assumes a uniform
color, tgnd then water shall be added to give the mixture a proper consistency. Mortar shall
be made fresh as needed.

No mortar shall be used which has begun to set, and not retemperlng thereof will be
permitted.

Mortar shall be mixed in a water-tight box and in no case on the pavement or ground.

SBCTION 8. CONCR~TI$ PROPORTION.

Unless otherwise specified on Plans, Profiles or other drawings, all concrete shall be
Class "B" and the different classes of concrete shall be as follows:

Gravel or Minimum Amount of
Broken Stone Cement per Cubic Yard
Concrete Cement Sacks Sand Cubic Feet Cubic Feet of Concrete in Place
Class A I Not more than 1.5 Not more than $ 7.5 Sacks
Class B 1 Not more than 2 Not more than 4 6 Sacks
Class C' I Not more than $ Not more than 6 4~ Sacks

All of the above materials shall comply with thc requirements as hereinbefore specified
for that particular material, and all broken stone or gravel shall consist of a class "C"
mixture of sizes, as hereinbefore specified.

Should there not be enough mortar to completely fill the voids in the concrete, the
de/iciancy shall be remedied by reducing the portion of gravel or broken stone used in the
mixture and not by adding a greater portion of sand.

The amount of mixing water shall be the minimum quantity that will produce a
workable mix.

(a) MEASURING MATERIALS. For machine mixing ,sand and gravel or broken
stone shall be measured in wheel barrows which, when struck with a straight edge resting
upon the sides, shall have the-capacity necessary to accurately maintain the above propor-
tiuns. For hand mixing, the sand and gravel or broken stone shall be measured in boxes.

Every wheel har~w load or box full of material used must be struck with a straight
edge as above specified. ~ald material shall be measured loose without shaking or cum-
p~cting.

Ce~nent in sacks as above specified shall be dumped directly into the mixer or upon
