RESOLUTION NO. 2304 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thousands of men are now out of employment and present conditions <br />indicate that thousands more must soon Join the list of the unemployed in California <br />due to conditions existing in the oil industry; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the enforced withdrawal of the petroleum industry from the purchasing <br />of material and equipment will seriously affect transportation, the steel industry, <br />and many manufacturing, machinery and oil tool industries throughout the entire United <br />States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAg, existing conditions will force the abandonment of many wells, <br />especially small producing wells, thus removing for all time the conservation of this <br />oil for the future, and will seriously injure if not destroy California~s largest <br />industry and force a large number of petroleum producers into bankruptcy; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, national legislation and an inm~ediate embargo or tariff against <br />foreign shipments of oil and petroleum products are necessary to save the American oil <br />industry in the present crisis; <br /> <br /> THEREFOHE, Be It Resolved that the City Council of the City of Santa Ana <br />petition President Hoover to call an extra session of Congress to enact national <br />legislation to meet the critical situation in the oil industry and to save America <br />from serious irreparable economic loss. <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be fo~varded to the President and <br />to California's Senators and Representatives. <br /> <br /> I here~ry certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly passed <br />by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, at a regular meeting of said City Council <br />held on the 4th day of May, 1931, by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES, TRUSTEES: <br /> <br />NOES, TRUSTEES: <br /> <br />ABSENT, TRUSTEES: <br /> <br />J.L.McBride, E.G.Warner, Paul B.
