ir. <br />From <br />City Manager <br />Director of Public Works <br />ME <br />November 1, 1972 <br />Subject:-- AUTOMATIC INTER -CONNECTION BETWEEN COSTA MESA COUNTY WATER DISTRICT AND SANTA <br />ANA WATER ST M <br />The Costa Mesa County Water District has requested an automatically controlled <br />and metered inter -tie on Sunflower Avenue to provide an independent emergency <br />water supply to the South Coast Plaza shopping center. <br />The City Council received their request on August 21, 1972 and referred it to <br />staff to determine conditions to be applied in an agreement for the proposed <br />inter -tie. The district and the South Coast Plaza owners are agreeable to <br />the attached conditions prepared by Santa Ana. The conditions provide for <br />reimbursement of half -the cost of the water main on Sunflower Avenue, <br />installation of the interconnection at District expense, operation and <br />maintenance of' the automatic pressure control valve and meter at District <br />expense and the applicable double rate water charges for a metered connection <br />serving outside the Santa Ana City limits. <br />Recommendation <br />Prepare an agreement for an automatic inter -connection between the Costa Mesa <br />County Water District and the City of Santa Ana water system. Include in the <br />agreement the attached conditions that are required to control and meter the <br />water that may enter the Costa Mesa County Water District System in the event <br />of an emergency. <br />R2oald E.
