Use caution when opening attachments or <br />links. <br />Dear Santa Ana Planning Commission, <br />I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed zoning changes that would allow for <br />mixed -use urban developments and the addition of a hotel in Santa Ana, CA. While I understand the L9,1 <br />need for growth and development, I believe these changes would have significant negative impacts <br />on our community that must be carefully considered. <br />Impact on Local Businesses and Economy <br />The introduction of mixed -use urban developments and hotels would likely displace existing local <br />businesses that have been part of our community for many years. These businesses contribute not <br />only to our local economy but also to the unique character of this part of Santa Ana. The shift L9 2 <br />towards mixed -use zoning and hotel development could result in a loss of diversity in our <br />commercial landscape, leading to economic instability, especially given the seasonal nature of the <br />hotel industry. <br />Traffic and Congestion Concerns <br />This area of Santa Ana already experiences significant traffic and congestion issues, particularly in <br />areas near proposed developments. The addition of mixed -use urban spaces and the hotel will L9 3 <br />undoubtedly exacerbate these problems, leading to longer commute times, increased pollution, and <br />a general decline in the quality of life for residents. The strain on our existing infrastructure would be <br />immense, potentially requiring costly upgrades that taxpayers would ultimately bear. Upgrades <br />would include additional lanes fortraffic, larger sewer and water services and electrical services. <br />Traffic studies likely assumed that the additional residents would predominantly use public <br />L9.4 <br />transportation or not commute at all, which is known to be erroneous. Studies should be conducted <br />that assume current percentages of public transportation to truly evaluate the impact on the local <br />streets. <br />Environmental and Infrastructure Strain <br />The large-scale construction required for mixed -use urban and hotel developments poses serious <br />environmental risks. Moreover, the added pressure on our city's infrastructure —such as water, L9.5 <br />sewage, and waste management systems —could lead to significant challenges in maintaining the <br />quality and sustainability ofthese services. <br />Community Character and Social Impact <br />One of the most concerning aspects of this development is the potential for gentrification and <br />displacement or conversely if it does not work, urban blight. This part of Santa Ana has a strong <br />sense of community, which could be eroded by developments that prioritize tourism and high -end L9.6 <br />residential units over the needs of current residents. The shift towards catering to tourists rather <br />than local citizens could fundamentally alter the cultural fabric of our community, leading to a loss of <br />17 <br />
