G7
November 1, 2023
Dear Commis€ieners and Councilmmbers,
Th roughout the history of rnust cities, there are decisioas made that produce moments
of grand 6vic success and lasting impact, as wall as rnoments when opportunities of
huge community bent and consequence are missed. Santa Arta, a community that
traces its roots back over one hundred and fifty years, has had its share of bosh.
s hare th is beta use ou r great city is sta nd i ng at the intersection of one of those very
rnornerlts now. Fla lated Bristol is a vi &ion ary pla n to re ima-gine an ag in g , 41-acre
shopping center past its prime and attraction on South Bristol Street into a new southern
gateway to Santa Ana. It will not only+ become an ex inn a od vibrarit destination of high
qu a lity housing, u niq ue shops and restaur-afft, much needed senior luring a nd a hotel
(also very much needed) but an unpreceden ed gnomic engine to drive pmeperity in
the eaty for decades to come.
$top and Consider these numbers_ 7,600 new construction and permanent jobs. Nearly
$10.7 mil lion in annu a I tax reven Lie and an investment of app roximatelyt $3 billion, one
of largest investment cornmiitment& is the ciY!i IOng. rich history. Related Bristol has the
potential to not only transf❑rm south Santa Ana into a model for future mixed use
development jr1 our city Lind the regiGn, but it wilt attrarot other developers and
r-ompa nies to thinly big a nd creatively about investing s ig n ificantly in ou r city. Wilh the
expected economic bonefits_ Related Bristol will propel the city's growth and abitity to
address the many needs a city of our size and age faces, but can`t fix due to insufficient
funding.
0uite siruply the halo affect of thi6 project will be a force mulliplierfor our eotire. city.
In 2022 when Santa Ana's General Plan was reprised and approved by the city, I believe
Related Bristol was j ust the type -of p rcj ect they envi 51oned in terms of design, dens ity
and the 13 acres of p rog rammed open space for cutd car events (for cum pariscn
purposes that is o bat bigger tlian the erYtirety of Centennial Heritage Museum in Santa
Ana) like Farmers M arkets.. Seasonal C raft Fairs, Live E ntextarinment and Publ is Art
displays, Related Bristol is r of only aligned with the General Plan, but it will be the
shining example of an urban village where people, not cars, are Ilse priority.
1
