EXHIBIT A O
ALICIA
ROJAS
1. Proposal:
Preservation and Protection of Public Art in Santa Ana Parks
Objective: This proposal seeks to establish guidelines, procedures, and a 3D mapping
initiative to ensure the preservation and protection of Santa Ana's public art, particularly
murals. These efforts are essential in safeguardingthe visual and cultural legacy of our
community.
The Importance of Murals: Murals, especially those painted on permanent structures,
play a crucial role in creating a sense of permanence and belonging within our community.
Their presence is integral to placemaking, helping to define and honor the people who
currently live in these spaces, as well as those who have lived here in the past. The
tradition of mural -making stretches back thousands of years, and our city continues to
contribute to this rich cultural heritage.
Cultural and Historical Significance: Murals are not just decorative; they are a vital part
of our cultural landscape. They encapsulate the history, values, and experiences of the
communities they represent. Removing or erasing these murals would not only impact the
physical landscape but also sever the ties that connect current and past generations to
these spaces.
Preservation of Community Legacies: It is crucial to preserve these cultural landscapes as
they provide a narrative of who has lived in these spaces and who continues to reside
here, reflecting the complexities of our community's history. To do this effectively, we
must engage with these communities, tapping into generational knowledge and
incorporating oral histories and archives into our preservation efforts.
Economic and Social Impact: Beyond their cultural significance, murals and other forms of
public art have tangible benefits for the city. They can serve as catalysts for urban renewal,
attracting tourists, generating revenue, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our
neighborhoods. By preserving these artworks, we not only protect our heritage but also
invest in the future vitality of our city.
Alicia Rojas www.alicia-rojas.com aliciaroiasart@gmail.com
This work plan contains proprietary information belonging to Alicia Rojas and may not be distributed, replicated, or
implemented in any way without authorization.
