CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br />AVENUE <br />1.05 SUBGRADE PREPARATION <br />Subgrade preparation shall conform to Section 301-1 of the Standard Specification and <br />these Special Provisions. <br />On areas where unsuitable subgrade materials are encountered, such materials shall be <br />overexcavated and replaced with either asphalt concrete or aggregate base, all as <br />determined and directed by the Engineer. <br />Placement of asphalt concrete or aggregate base in overexcavated areas shall be done with <br />minimum disturbance to the subgrade. Compacting shall be done with light rolling a steel <br />wheel roller with compaction requirement waived. Asphalt concrete shall be placed in lifts <br />not exceeding 6 inches in compacted thickness and shall be allowed to cool for 24 hours <br />before placing the next lift. <br />1.06 COLD MILLING <br />This section shall conform to Section 404 of the Standard Specifications. <br />1.07 SLURRY SEAL SURFACING <br />Emulsion -Aggregate Slurry (Type I-CSS-lh-EAS) <br />1. Materials - Shall conform to the requirements of Sub -Section "302-4 SLURRY <br />SEAL SURFACING" and "203.5.4 Emulsion -Aggregate Slurry (EAS)" of the <br />Standard Specifications except Sub -Section "203-5.4.2-.2 Emulsified Asphalt" <br />shall be amended so that the asphaltic emulsion shall conform to the requirements <br />for cationic emulsion grade CSS-lh (slow setting) or approved equal. The type of <br />emulsion to be used shall be as indicated in these special provisions unless <br />determined otherwise by the Engineer prior to slurry applications. <br />2. Sub -Section "302-4.5 Scheduling, Public Convenience and Traffic Control" shall <br />be the same except for the following additions: Spreading - The application of <br />slurry shall be scheduled to commence after 8:00 a.m., and no slurry operations <br />shall be done after 2:00 p.m. unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. Slurry <br />shall be sufficiently cured for vehicle traffic without tracking or damage to the <br />surface by 3:00 p.m. on the same day. In case of damage done by vehicles and/or <br />pedestrians upon slurry that has not been sufficiently cured by 3:00 p.m., the <br />Contractor shall replace all of the damaged work at the Contractor's expense and <br />no additional compensation shall be made by the City. Final stripping shall be <br />installed no more than ten (10) working days after placement of slurry. <br />3. Sub -Section "302-4.6.4 Aggregate Application Rate" and "Table 302-4.6.4.1(A)" <br />shall be replaced with the following: Slurry Seal (Type I) shall be applied at a rate <br />of 2,000 square feet per extra long ton (ELT). <br />29 <br />
