Use caution when opening attachments or links. Good evening council, My name is Faby Jacome, and I am the Executive Director of the Orange County Justice Fund. I want to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to members of this council for your ongoing support of local organizations that are doing on-the-ground work with our community. Specially Mayor Pro-Tem Vasquez, Councilmember Hernandez, Councilmember Lopez, and Councilmember Thai Pham. Your commitment to uplifting and protecting our most vulnerable residents is deeply appreciated. I am here tonight to voice our strong support for Item 21, This committee would advise the city on immigrant protections and sanctuary city policies. As an organization that works directly with impacted individuals and families, we understand how critical it is to ensure that accurate, accessible information reaches those who need it most. This advisory group presents an opportunity to strengthen protections and empower immigrant communities with the knowledge they need to navigate an often hostile and complex system. We do, however, have one key request: that the individuals selected for this advisory committee truly reflect the full diversity of our community. Immigration issues are often framed as solely affecting Latino communities, but we know—through both data and lived experiences—that Black and Asian immigrant communities are also disproportionately targeted by enforcement and exclusionary policies. If this advisory group is to be effective, it must be inclusive and representative of all impacted communities. Transparency and equity must be at the core of this process. We are grateful to this council for taking this step toward a more just and inclusive city, and we urge you to ensure that this advisory body is built in a way that uplifts all voices, particularly those most impacted by our immigration system.
