<br />Communication was read from ?feet Coast Neon Company relative to
<br />
<br />encroachment of electric sign at Cisco~s Drive In at 1227 West 17th
<br />Street. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and
<br />carried, proper officials were authorized to si~n the new electric
<br />sign agreement with West Coast Sigm Company et al, subject to the
<br />condition that they be allowed to encroach 24 inches on the setback
<br />because the posts are already located and an erro~ ~as made in said
<br />location.

<br />On motion of Councilman D~I, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br />resignation of Herbert L. Hill, as a member of the Library Bom-d,
<br />effective June 15th, 1955, was received and filed. On motio~ of
<br />
<br />Councilman D~al, seconded by Jerome and carried, the Clerk was inst~uct-
<br />ed to aSdress a communication to Mr. Hill thanking him for his service~
<br />on the Library Board and expressing regret at his resignation.

<br />On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br />
<br />communication from Orange County Chapter, The American Institute of
<br />Architects, volunteering the services of its membership on Planning
<br />Commissions or Zoning Committees as well as other committee activities
<br />was received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion'of Councilman Hein].y, seconded by Da2al and carried, the
<br />communication from the Republican ~omen of Santa Ama, stating the
<br />organization is opposed to books being bought or made available in the
<br />public libraries by authors who are knc~ to be Communists or members
<br />of Communist Front or subversive organizations, and requesting permis-
<br />sion to appear before the Library Board reference the matter, was
<br />received and filed. On motion of Councilman D~al, seconded by HeinRy
<br />and carried, permission was grAnt~, to attend the' Library Board meet-
<br />lhg and the Clerk directed to advise *the OrEanlzati'on that this re-
<br />quest was the first notice received by the Council with reference to
<br />
<br /> the matter.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Meinly, seconded by Market smd carried, the
<br /> communication from the Division of Highways, with map and certified
<br /> copy of Resolution attached, adopting the route for a portion of
<br /> State Highway in Orange County, between Hanson Street and the Santa
<br /> Ama Freeway, road VII-Ora-179-A, Santa Ama, was received and filed.
<br /> On motion of Co~ncilman Jerome, seconded by Heinly and carried, the
<br /> statement from Diehl and Company of condition of City funds for the
<br /> period July 1, 1954 to March 31st,' 1955, was received and filed.

<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the
<br />Purchasing Agent was granted permission to advertise for bi~s for
<br />furnishing and installing electrical circuits in Building T-9, at the
<br />Com~uunity Center, in accordanc~ with Specification No. 672-2; bids to
<br />be opened July 5, 1955.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Do]~.I and ca~ried, the
<br />application of the Metropolitan Coach Lines before the Public
<br />Utilities Commission, for authority to adjust rates, was received and i
<br />filed.
