Minimum Standards <br /> <br />1. Width - Minimum acceptable sidewalk width is four (4) feet without obstruc- <br /> tions. In appropriate locations, methods other than paved walkways may be <br /> utilized to delineate pedestrian ways. <br /> <br />2. Ramps - Grades in excess of 6.67% (1 vertical to 15 horizontal) shall be <br /> considered a ramp and shall meet Uniform Building Code requirements for <br /> ramps. The maximum acceptable ramp grade is 12.5%. <br /> <br />3. Handrails - Any ramp or set of steps shall be provided with handrails for <br /> pedestrian safety as required by the Uniform Building Code. <br /> <br />4. Handicapped Access - All new construction is required to have an entrance <br /> accessible to handicapped persons. TO qualify as a handicapped entrance, <br /> there must be acceas from a parking lot with designated handicapped spaces <br /> or access from a public sidewalk that meets the following: <br /> <br /> a. No steps or curbs. <br /> <br /> b. No sidewalk grade greater than <br /> <br /> c. No ramp grade greater than 8.33%. <br /> <br /> d. Adequate platform space at the building entrance to provide for <br /> a wheelchair while opening the door (see Building Code). <br /> <br />5. Handicapped Access/Public Right-of-Way - If a curb or sidewalk is recon- <br /> structed within a pedestrian crosswalk area or is located before a site <br /> that is being developed, the developer shall construct a sidewalk access <br /> ramp (wheelchair ramp) for the handicapped as part of the improvements <br /> required by the Department of Public Works. <br /> <br />- 25 ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
