Miller, Ccmmmnity Clubs and Camping Secretary, Young Men's Christian <br /> <br />Association, was approved, for needy youngsters to sell "Peanuts" March 28 through <br /> <br />Claim for <br />Injuries <br /> <br />July 28, 1962, to earn funds to attend camp. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Brewer and carried, the amended claim <br /> <br />of Ivie Stein, Jr., for alleged injuries and damages incurred December 17, 1960, <br /> <br />when falsely arrested, beaten, assaulted, bruised and harmed by unidentified mem- <br /> <br />bers of the Police Department, in the sum of $500,000.00, was referred to the Attor, <br /> <br />Application to <br />~Solicit Funds <br /> <br />ney and Insurance Carrier. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Schlueter and carried, the application <br /> <br />of To~m~ J. Hollins, to solicit Funds February 20 through May 15, 1962, for the pur- <br /> <br />pose of buying a Church site or building, was referred to the Police Department for <br /> <br />Request <br />League of Calif. Cities <br />(Telephone Co. in lieu <br />franchise tax) <br /> <br />investigation and report at the next meeting. <br /> <br />On recce~nendation of the Manager and on motion of CounciLman Hubbard, seconded by <br /> <br />Heinly and carried, the request of the League of California Cities was granted and <br /> <br />the City go on record as being in favor of assisting and asking for a Special Ses- <br /> tax <br />sion of the State Legislature regarding gross receipts/on Telephone Companies'in <br /> <br />lieu of franshise tax, and requesting the Governor to place the same on the call <br /> <br />!Reso. No. 62-46 <br /> Favor Legislative Action <br /> (Telephone Co. in lieu <br /> franchise tax) <br /> <br />for the next Special Session of the Legislature. <br /> <br />The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of <br /> <br />Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Helnly and carried, the following Resolution en- <br /> <br />titled: <br /> <br />"Resolution No. 62-46 of the City of Santa Ana, California, favoring <br />Legislative action to submit a Constitutional Amendment to the voters <br />which would impose a one percent tax on Telephone Companies' gross <br />receipts in lieu of franchise payments and requesting that same be <br />included in the call for the Special Session" <br /> <br />and the Governor of the State of California is urgently requested to include among <br />the items in his call for the next Special Session of the Legislature of the State <br /> <br />of California the consideration of a one percent gross receipts tax upon Telephone <br /> <br />Companies'to be created by a legislative proposal for amendment of the Constitutio~ <br /> <br />of this State creating the enabling provisions in terms approximately as now pro- <br /> <br />posed in the form developed by the League of California Cities, was considered and <br /> <br />passed by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Request <br />W.E. Mitchell, Safety and Juvenile Chairman, P.T.A., Andrew Jackson School, was <br />denied, for a marked pedestrian crosswalk across Fairview Street at Mcfadden Avenue <br />and that the Police Department provide a crossing guard at this location, and the <br />proper officials were authorized and directed to take immediate steps to provide <br /> <br />protection by installation of traffic signals in lieu of a crossing guard at the <br /> <br />Reso.
