Total number of clients anticipated to be served during the 12-month contract period= <br />120 PERSONS <br />11. Total number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served with grant funds during thk <br />12-month contract period= 90 PERSONS 75% Santa Ana clients <br />III. Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12- <br />month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client <br />characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized. <br />The Kids On Track ... through Mentoring Program matches at -risk r, 4° and 5a grade students with qualifiec <br />high school students who are trained as mentors. Through a behavioral life skills training process, they are provided <br />with: comprehensive training in conflict resolution skills, positive youth development activities, and recognition <br />for making good choices. Key teen mentors are given the opportunity to become "Ambassadors of Peace." Thr <br />program will match 60 Santa Ana youth: 30 high school students ("mentors") with 30 at -risk Kennedy Elementar. <br />School 31°, 0 and 5° grade students ("mentees"), and train them in conflict resolution and asset -building, while <br />providing youth -to -youth mentoring and recreation in an after -school environment. <br />The 60+ mentors and mentees will be provided with 25 hours of caH6ed Conflict Resolution Training, as well <br />as weekly Youth Asset Building sessions. The tmining/mentoing sessions will be conducted on a weekly basis <br />throughout the school year. Key teaching strategies of the training include hands-on activities, role-playing, group <br />brainstorming, and cooperative activities. Each class will last for 3 1/2 hours, during which time students will alst <br />be fed nutritious snacks, and will have at least 30 minutes of "fun time' together (i.e. basketball, handball, games <br />etc.). Since academic achievement is abD a priority, the mentees have one hour of tutored "homework time' <br />during each session, before the mentors arrive. The City of Santa Ana CDBG funds will be used to support dircer <br />program expenses only, including program staff salaries, supplies, special events, and local mileage.
