ORAL COMMUNICATION The establishment of an <br />BILL GREEN GRAND CENTRAL PLAZA old time street in the <br />REFERRED TO STAFF year 1895 on Second Street <br /> between Broadway and <br />Sycamore utilizing approximately 15,000 square feet and includ- <br />ing a~proximately 12 to 14 businesses appropriate to the setting <br />of Grand Central Plaza, was presented to the Council by Bill <br />Greenberg of Green's Furniture Store. His suggestion included <br />sgtes people in costume, a news boy selling papers giving <br />schedule of events planned for Saturday and Sunday, an open <br />market, barbershop quartets, Dixieland bands, a cable car running <br />between Civic Center, Senior Citizens Center, the Waffle House <br />to the Bowers Museum, and back to Grand Central Plaza. To begin <br />the project, Mr. Greenberg suggested that on Sundays for 7 or <br />8 weeks the street be closed for a flea market and some special <br />events. <br /> <br />Favorable comments from Councilmen were followed by Councilman <br />Ward's motion, seconded by Councilman Brandt, and carried unan- <br />imously 7:0 to refer these ideas and suggestions to Staff and <br />the Community Redevelopment Commission for development. After relating a series <br />of occurrences, he was referred to Assistant City Manager Ronald <br />Wolford for assistance in meeting any permit requirements, on <br />the unanimously carried 7:0 motion of Councilman Ward, seconded <br />by Councilman Garthe. TO STAFF FOR IMPLEMENTATION sewer and street improvements <br /> on the north side of West <br />Edinger..be,~ween Fairview and the Santa Aha River. <br /> <br />City Manager Bruce Spragg suggested that an Assessment District could <br />b~formed for construction of improvements at the same time work <br />is started on Centennial Park, or in approximately six months. <br /> <br />On the motion of Councilman Bricken, seconded by Councilman Ortiz, <br />and carried 6:0 unanimously, Staff was directed to meet with Mr. <br />Valdez and his neighbors to discuss the costs estimated to form <br />an Assessment District for the needed improvements.
