<br />satisfactorily demonstrated the required level of <br />fluency in both languages. <br /> <br />C. Sworn: Street Level Proficiency in Spanish. A Police <br />Officer or Sergeant who successfully demonstrates the <br />required level of bilingual fluency as determined by <br />the chief personnel officer shall be paid a bilingual <br />pay differential in an amount equal to the product <br />obtained by multiplying the Step "E" base salary rate <br />of Police Officer by five (5) salary rate ranges <br />(approximately 2.5%). <br /> <br />Employees receiving "Street Level Proficiency" <br />incentive pay may be required, as a condition of <br />continued eligibility to receive such incentive pay, to <br />successfully complete an eight (8) hour refresher <br />course once every twelve months from the date of <br />initial certification. <br /> <br />D. Sworn: Complex Level Proficiency in Designated <br />Languages. A Police Officer or Police Sergeant who <br />successfully demonstrates the required level of <br />bilingual fluency as determined by the chief personnel <br />officer shall be paid a bilingual pay differential in <br />an amount equal to the product obtained by multiplying <br />the Step "E" base salary rate of Police Officer by ten <br />(10) salary rate ranges (approximately 5%) . <br /> <br />E. Non Sworn: Secondary Level Proficiency in Designated <br />Languages. A non-sworn employee who successfully <br />demonstrates the required level of bilingual fluency as <br />determined by the chief personnel officer shall be paid <br />a monthly differential of forty dollars ($40) above his <br />or her then current base monthly salary step. <br /> <br />F. Non-sworn: Primary Level Proficiency in Designated <br />Languages. A non-sworn employee who successfully <br />demonstrates the required level of bilingual fluency as <br />determined by the chief personnel officer shall be paid <br />a monthly differential of one hundred seventy-five <br />dollars ($175) above his or her then current base <br />monthly salary step. <br /> <br />5.4 All assignments to positions set forth in Sections 5.1, 5.2, <br />5.3 above of sworn and non-sworn personnel shall be made or <br />revoked in a fair manner at the discretion of the Police <br />Chief. <br /> <br />5.5 Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay. The parties acknowledge <br />that from time to time it may be necessary for the <br />department to fill a vacant, full-time budgeted, higher- <br />level position. The parties agree that such a position may <br />be filled by an eligible unit member for an initial period <br /> <br />19 <br />
