FOR <br />MAINTENANCE OF POLICE RADIO <br />MODEMS <br />(fin <br />CI Y MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1 S` Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the <br />Clerk of the Council to renew the agreement with Motorola, Inc. to service <br />the Police Department's vehicle radio modems and radio network controller <br />in an amount not to exceed $36,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />In 1997, the Police Department was awarded a federal "COPS MORE" grant to <br />purchase laptop computers for patrol officers. An officer's laptop can <br />send and receive calls for service, messages, and emergency radio traffic. <br />A radio modem and a radio network controller are two pieces of required <br />equipment that allow an officer's laptop to communicate with the police <br />dispatch center. Motorola, Inc. was selected as the department's vendor <br />for vehicle radio modems and the radio network controller. Motorola modems <br />are proprietary and can only be serviced by Motorola, Inc. The one-year <br />service renewal agreement will provide maintenance and support for police <br />radio modems and the network controller. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the Police Department's Computer Systems Other <br />Contractual Services account (account no.
