Currently there are only two continuous through travel lanes
in each direction, with a painted median and narrow parkways
(see Photo 1). There are also a multitude of side streets and
fronting commercial and residential driveways that are not
conducive to the efficient passage of the high volume of
motoring public that use this street every day. The construction
cost for the Phase I Widening of Bristol Street has been estimated by City staff to be in the apptoximate range of
$16 to $17 million.

The proposed project will:

. Widen Bristol Street to 100' from curb. to-curb
(allowing for three through lanes in each direction,
see Photo 2)

. Install raised medians (with breaks at only three
intersections, namely at Bishop Street, Richland Avenue!
Tolliver Street and McFadden, see Photo 2)

. Install eight cul-de.sacs (at Highland Street, Richland
Avenue - west, Raymar Street - east & west, Carnile
street, Chestnut Avenue and Pine Street - east & west,
see Photo 3)

. ModifY two signalized intersections (at McFadden Ave
and Bishop Street, see Photo 1)

. Install catch basin inlets and lateral pipes (at a minimum
of 3 laterals north of McFadden Avenue, 2 laterals north
of Highland Street, 2 laterals north of Bishop Street and
2 laterals north of Myrtle Street and at additional cul-de-
sac inlet poims as required)

. Install a continuous traffic signal interconnect system

, ,

'~:
,...=~

'i.jr .......~

"'...."..>
"",ii,"-";

'l:~t ':~;J,;;~2;f'i:;" .'
:;\~':.i:" , '.

<A..:'~
"":.'.3"
"

~,:~::'.]

_J.;.:1

H

ijf',
~X .

., ':,;;4'-
(--'"
"''',''

jj~r
" ..,. This project is the first of four remaining
phases that are required to widen the entire Bristol Street
corridor from Warner Avenue to Memory Lane. Harris &
Associates has assembled an expert Team for this project that
is uniquely positioned to perform this work because this Team
has recently completed most of the same design elements
for the immediately adjacent project reach on Bristol Street
from Pine Street to Third Street. Further, the Harris Team has
also completed the main line storm drain design though the
proposed project reach (and beyond) on Bristol Street from
McFadden Avenue to Third Street.

Photo I - Existing Roadway Condition: Presently on
Bristol Street there are only two travel Ian.. in each direction
with painted medians and traffic signals at Bishop Street
(shown) and MrFadden Aven... Once completed there will be
three travel Ian.. in earh dirertion with landscaped medians
and wide landscaped parkways and improved drainage.

Photo 1 - Typical Bristol Street "Proposed" Roadway
Condition: The proposed Bristol Street widening will resolt in
three travel Ian.. in each dirertion, with landscaped medians
with Canary Island palms and wide landscaped parkways,
similar to what presently exists sooth of McFadden Avenoe as
shown.

H I Harris & Associates.

Bristol Corridor Widening - Phase I
Page-I-
