NO. 06-096) <br />~~ <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1s' Reading <br />^ Ordinance on Intl Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to ProForce Law Enforcement for Taser electronic control <br />devices, ammunition and accessories in the amount not to exceed $250,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Santa Ana Police Department utilizes electronic control devices to gain <br />control over violently resisting subjects. The new X26 Taser will replace, <br />supplement and upgrade the department's current inventory of MI6 Taser <br />electronic control devices. The MI6 Triers purchased in 2001 are obsolete <br />and due for replacement. The new X26 Taser electronic control device is <br />smaller, lighter, and more effective. It also incorporates a data chip <br />that records the time, date and duration of discharge each time the Taser <br />is used. Ammunition and accessories for the X26 Taser are also required. <br />ProForce Law Enforcement is the sole source distributor for the X26 Taser <br />electronic control devices, ammunition and accessories for California.
