REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 <br />TITLE: <br />PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO <br />CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION <br />PLAN AND ANNUAL BUDGET <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution that amends the City's Basic Management Classification <br />and Compensation plan (No. 91-066) and amends the Fiscal Year 2006-07 <br />Annual Budget. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Recently, the Personnel Services Department conducted a review of the <br />duties, responsibilities, and compensation of the Deputy City Manager for <br />Development Services (EM) job classification. This analysis indicated <br />that Santa Ana's classification is undercompensated in relation to <br />comparable positions in similar cities. Therefore, the City Manager is <br />requesting a 5% equity increase in order to appropriately compensate and <br />ensure retention of the incumbent.
